While I’m licking my wounds and nursing myself, here is some breaking site news I thought you might be interested in.

For one, note the tiny change of URL. Currently, the old URLs work just fine, but may arbitrarily stop some day in the future. Please make any necessary changes before that. For those of you who’ve been spammed by my XML feed as a result of this shift, sorry.

Another little tidbit is my new pseudonym and e-mail address to commence the festivities: pundit at emphaticallystatic dot org.

Why pundit? From the nearest online dictionary,

\pun”dit\, n

  1. A Brahman scholar or learned man; a teacher.
  2. A source of opinion; a critic.

My, how deliciously ambiguously apt.

Now, I go rest. I will respond to all your exciting comments subsequently.

This is a printer-friendly version of the journal entry “On a programming note” from actuality.log. Visit http://emphaticallystatic.org/earlier/on-a-programming-note/ to read the original entry and follow any responses to it.

What hosting service do you have, and how much does it cost? Is it really worth it? I mean, can’t you just run the site off your department servers?

  2. pundit says:

It’d been free for something like 3 years, and recently in single digits per month. My provider is this German company called 1and1, whom I adore. And I’d say it is totally worth it.

I ran sites off university servers (not departmental; we’re not cool like EECS) for a while, before I started missing things like a server-side scripting language and a database server. Plus, I go through phases where the kinds of things I talk about are entirely-not-work-safe.

I decided it was the easiest option to just go solo, rather than worrying about getting an e-mail from someone, someday about crossing some line. Actually, I am curious how you stumbled across it, I don’t overtly advertise it there.

  3. Manjunath says:

I stumbled upon your blog through orkut I think, I forget the linking person, though.

  4. pUl| says:

So are we also expecting a pundit.org?

  5. pundit says:

No, we ought not to. Emphatically static was one of the names I was playing with (not on that list) years ago, before picking actuality dot log. Plus emphatically static has been the catch-phrase for actuality dot log since inception.

Plus, my life is emphatically static.

So no, we ought not to.
