I was trying to snag myself a copy of Fedora Core 6 earlier today and I ran into this:
Oh, the irony of it all!
I understand that the Fedora Core people trust CentOS over their own OS, but to trust it over Red Hat? Couldn’t they afford the licensing?
Perhaps the money saved by not subscribing to RHEL is significant and is being put to use elsewhere in the Fedora project?
My question being, why would Red Hat need to pay for Red Hat Enterprise Linux on fedora.redhat.com?
Ah, gotcha. It would be more fun it were powered by Debian or Slackware :)
http://fedora.redhat.com is actually a sub domain in a different server hosted in Duke university which use CentOS systems.
I’ll refrain from saying everything I wanted to say. CentOS is a Red Hat/Fedora based distribution designed for servers with a long release cycle. While they could have used Red Hat, why waste money when they don’t need too? Red Hat is centered on it’s support program. Why would fedora.redhat.com need help on something they helped create?
I know what CentOS is.
Explain to me how using Red Hat Enterprise Linux involves “wasting money” when Fedora is a Red Hat project?
