Funny (but rather large) clip

I’ve been extremely … I don’t know the word. It’s like, my mind can’t keep its focus on a given topic or task for more than a minute or so at a time. (Which is obviously why there aren’t any real posts. I take my time to come up with something coherent. For instance, halfway through typing that sentence, I broke, and typed part of a later paragraph.) It is a weird sort of a combination of disturbed and distracted. Even when I’m “sleeping”. I don’t really dream usually, and sleep extremely soundly. But for a few weeks now, I’ve been sleeping a lot (as in timewise) but not really feeling too refreshed. Meaning, arbitrary tossing and turning. And the dreams, for the love of god, I’ve been having this extreme multi-level recursive dreams. You know, the weird ones in which you think you’ve woken up, but really just waking up from a dream within a dream? God they get old real fast.

So, to cut a long story short, since I am incapable of being funny or remotely interesting, I will plagiarise.

There is a good chance you’ve probably seen this before somewhere else. But here is a hilarious clip [~ 34 MB] from one of the September Late night with Conan O’ Brien shows. I insist you should watch if if your bandwidth allows you to.

  1. i had one of those dreams this morning too. very annoying.

totally off subject, but i’m having trouble watching stuff in windows media player – says i need to download a codec or something like that. i tried downloading some of these things, but it still doesn’t work. (well, i get sound, but no picture) any chance you can help?

  2. Looks like A.D.D. setting in. Get some Ritalin.

Oddly enough, I had a “dream in a dream” today morning too. Left me feeling so out-of-body-ish. Hurts my head too.

anita: Looks like you need the DivX codec. Get it @ http://koepi.org/XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe
I know this is the XviD codec, but it plays back DivX too. It weighs in at 621kb in case you were wondering.

  3. anita: Annoying, and strangely disturbing. In a “what? I’m unhappy and don’t even know it now?” sort of way.

And, if you install the codec from the location indexfaction mentioned, the video should show up. Windows media player’s default media-type detection and codec downloading skills leave quite a bit to be desired.

At least that’s funny. Or probably that’s in my mind too.

  4. indexfaction: Dude, I can’t have ADD, just a few weeks ago I was achieving my 32 hour stretches of pure unbridled productivity. I think this is something far more serious. To get seriously scientific, I think my inner self has issues with something and I, the conscious person, am not acknowledging it. If you’ll excuse me, I’d like to go sit in that corner, talk to myself, and sort this out, man to ma.. err non-existent entity.

And, if you didn’t realize, it’s a huge breach in protocol when you cut in and offer help (useful or not isn’t the point) when a woman asks a geek help with some random technical thing normal people shouldn’t care to know. Don’t take away the only simple joys in the world geeks live for. We need to feel useful too, once in a while.

  5. thanks, i got the conan clip to play (very funny), but i can’t play some other mpeg files. i don’t get sound or picture for them. can either of you geeks help with that one? : )

  6. Are you sure these other files are mpegs? Windows media player can usually play those out of the box. Anyway, since I need a sample file to say exactly what it needs, the easiest thing to do is to get a “codec pack” (a collection of popular codecs which together end up covering most common needs) from a place like this one and installing it. (The STANDARD version should be sufficient.)

That should do the trick, as well as cover other files you might run into later. Of course, if it still doesn’t work, I will need to sneak a peek of one of these files.

  7. i’m pretty sure i already downloaded that one. didn’t help. anyway, i’m going away for a week, i’ll deal with it when i get back.
